# Problem
It is recommended to upgrade the database manually if you currently using an installation of the script with the version `2012-01-22` or older.
## Database
The old script is configured as following:
| Engine | Collation |
| ------ | ------------------ |
| MyISAM | latin1_general_ci |
The new one configures a modern database:
| Engine | Collation |
| ------ | ------------------ |
| InnoDB | utf8mb4_general_ci |
The database schema is identically.

# Solution
* Make a full **backup** of the database content and webserver files.
* Export the data of the database from your old installation.
* Delete completly the old installation
* Install phpMyContacts as [documented](https://gitlab.domi-cloud.de/domi/phpMyContacts/-/blob/master/README.md) including the execution of `install.php`.
* Import the exported data into the newly generated database tables.
* If required you can rename the table name within the exported file before importing.
E.g. find `contacts_` and replace with `phpmycontacts_` |
\ No newline at end of file |
